There is a wealth of information out there, on websites, and on the forums. The problem with the forums is that posters don't have the ability to edit their posts. This means that useful threads (such as the main FAQ thread in the Creature Handler Profession Section) end up being 12 pages long, and filled with /bump posts, with a little bit of info hidden here and there. All I've done is compiled some of the most useful tips, links and tables in one place for easy reference (initially, my own!).
This page aims to collect a range of useful information in one place. It answers some of the most Frequently asked questions about the Creature Handling profession ("What pet can I use at x/x/x/x?", "Where do I find a xxxx?", "Where is the nearest trainer on xxx planet?" etc) as well as offering some useful tips on other areas of the game. It will be constantly updated - if you have some info that you think should be added here, then please email me, or leave a comment at the bottom of the page!
add a summary for CH changes (ie, new bugs) for each major patch.

Notes:
* The defender is 2/1/x/x to tame your own but you can call them with 1/1/x/x, aka someone transfers it to you.
* Max level of pet is the level of pet you can Tame.
* Max number of pet levels is the number of pet levels you can Call. For instance, with max number of level pets at 45, you could call 2 GW with CL 44 total or you could call 1 CL 44 or 1 CL 45 pet.
* Rock beetles: You should be able to pick up a mission for them from Mos Eisley. You just need to keep refreshing it. I went through a stage of not being able to get them, then went up to tier II in trickshot, and got them. Other than that, run around the mountains behind the starport... watch out for mountain squills.
* The Spineflap handmaiden is another great pet for a Novice CH / Non CH - they can be found around Theed, but be careful for the red agro soldiers and guards that also spawn about the nests.

General Info:
You will need to have the pet trained with the transfer command before you can trade it to be trained, or trade it to another player. So anyone wishing to sell mounts must have Empathy 4 and Management 4 to work effectively (note that this will change when the next major patch is applied).
DO NOT let your taming level exceed your training level. all you get is a SLIGHTLY higher chance of taming what you can already use, which means that at CH 4, 3, x, x, you can't TOUCH a CL 50 pet in the wild, nor can you call one. CH 3, 4, x, x is a much better lineup, especially if you get management 3 as soon as you can. you can use 2 pets, and 2 pets means double CH xp.
might as well go ahead and get management 4 while you're at it. the 'transfer' command allows you to trade/sell pets, and that +5 control level will help you more than you might think. trust me on this. with CH 3, 4, x, 4, you'll be able to use 2 fully grown CL sub25 pets (+50 control levels) AND you can tame almost anything in the game.
get empathy 1. the 'trick' command is useful. after this, leave off empathy until you have the other skills at 4. THEN go ahead and train it to 4, get the extra stored pets and the +5 control level. Then go for master, or not.
Before you can name a pet, you have to be able to teach it 4 commands. This means that at Novice CH, you aren't able to name it - and that you'll have to get at least one level from either the Empathy or the Management line if you wish to name your pet. Once you can teach it 4 commands, you name it by teaching it those commands with the name you wish to use in front of the command itself - '/tellpet cmd'. Thus, if you wish to name your pet Fluffy, you would teach it 4 commands saying '/tellpet Fluffy store', then '/tellpet Fluffy attack', etc. until you have taught it 4 commands. You know you'll have done it right when after the 4th command you're pet will respond with the new name - ie 'Fully ?'. Once this is done your pet is named.
* Note that if you are trying to use a reserved name that you will not receive an error message - the creature will simply not take the new name, and you'll sit there wondering what the hell went wrong.

So, you've harvested 34983984 Kaadus or Gualamas, and you've got your Novice Creature Handler title above your head! Yay! But now what? Well, here's a random assortment of info that should help you having to spam too many uptight people asking for help.
First off, you'll probably want to run around and try to tame some stuff. This is recommended so you know how the taming process works. You can start off by running to find some of the more useful novice pets - Rock Beetles, Mountain Krevols, Spineflap Handmaidens, or Cowardly Gurrecks. If you find one, then tame it - it may take a few attempts, but you should eventually succeed. Once this is done however, you have a baby, which is fairly useless until it's grown a bit, and after you've taught it the three commands available to you as a novice you'll want to start killing and gaining more CH exp asap.
This is why one option is buying your first pet. You should find plenty of people selling Novice or Non-CH pets around towns, so simply pick one of these up for a reasonable price (which is usually server specific). You'll only be using this pet while your newly tamed friends grow up a bit, so don't worry too much if he gets a beating or loses some vitality, your only concern is keeping that experience moving while waiting for the growth.
The other option is finding a typical novice level pet, and using it to attack mobs outside the starter towns and assisting the pet once it has got a single shot in. This does assume you have some combat skills. It's also incredibly boring, but it will let you grind through exp reasonably fast, and if you're harvesting hides/meat from the mobs as you kill them then you can rack up some cash at the same time.
* Note that there is a bug with trading pets - you will sometimes not see the pet show up in the trading window, so you can't be sure that the other person has really placed it there. So choose who you buy the pet from carefully.
* How to teach pets commands. This is pretty obvious to those who have been Creature Handling for a bit, but here it is anyway. You need to select the command you wish to teach your pet from the radial teach menu, and follow it up with a /tellpet (whatever) command. So, selecting attack from the radial menu, and then issuing /tellpet KILL means your pet will attack when you say KILL. If you get the message "your pet doesn't seem to understand you" then keep trying - it can sometimes take a few attempts.
* Remember that you cannot name pets until you can teach them 4 commands, so you will have to wait until you get empathy 1 or management 1.
* One of the best ways to get CH experience is through group combat. As long as your creature touches the mob then you should be getting full CH experience for it. This means if you're fighting multiple mobs, then make sure your pet gets a hit in on every mob in order to maximise your earning potential. Also remember that the sooner you get Management III then the sooner you can have 2 pets out, which means double exp.
* Being able to make/use stims will maximise your downtime a lot, or, of course having a Bio Engineer as a friend will give you access to pet stims which are just as useful.
As a creature handler, you can sell pets under CL15 to Non-CH players. However, there are a few things you should remember:
* The best options are still the Mountain Krevol, the Rock Beetle, or the Cowardly Gurrek.
* When trading, the pet may not show up in the trade window for the buying player.
* Remember that the pet will only know the commands you have taught it, so it helps to wait until you can teach it at least trick1 and possibly group before selling it to a a non CH.

The /echo command can be combined with other commands in a macro to provide a little extra immersion or feedback without spamming other players.
An example macro I have set up:
PetAttack - /tellpet attack; /echo Sick 'em Fido
Displays "Sick 'em Fido" to my spatial tab and no one elses.
If you want the text to display in color so it stands out in your chat window, you can change it to:
PetAttack - /tellpet attack; /echo \#rrggbbSick 'em Fido\#ffffff;
rr - red component
gg - green component
bb - blue component
The colors are hexidecimal values of 0-9, a, b, c, d, e, f. 00 is no color while ff is white. I include the "\#ffffff;" at the end to change the color back to its default for later editing.
Also note that the "\#rrggbb" portion is hidden from display. You might want to type the \ last so you can see what is being typed.
/alarmAddIn 0 9 Muhon Gold downer in 1 minute!
Where 0 is the hours, 9 is the minutes. Adjust as needed. Handy if you've had a couple of incapacitations in a row, and want to know how long until your 10 minutes is up to avoid the automatic deathblow.
Combat macro for breaking the 'TAB' target cycle and targetting the nearest enemy.
/ui action untarget;/ui action cycleTargetOutward;
(assigning of this macro to something like ctrl-/ also makes life easier)
Combat macro to prevent following up a Warning Shot and pulling the mob back
/warningShot;/pause 1;/peace;
(note for very fast weapons use /pause 0.75 )
Expanded Warning Shot macro for use when grouped
/group Warning Shot on %TT;/warningShot;/pause 1;/peace;
(there's nothing worse than 2 people trying to Warning Shot the same mob and having the effect cancelled out by each other. note this is of limited use when fighting hordes of the same mob)
Notes:
* Macros are case sensitive. Take great care to copy case exactly when setting up new macros, and/or when posting macro examples on forums!
* You can also create macros via .txt file just place the file in the root of your SWG directory. inside the text file start with the alias same as text file for east of use.. i.e. music.txt (file) inside the file music; /flourish 1; etc etc then on the chat command type /load music.txt and to run it.. its /music this way you can compose or do thing with macros without having to type many lines and cut and paste!
/alias tre /tell Reznik
now, '/tre your Kaadu has 83 HP!' will send '/tell Reznik your Kaadu has 83 HP!' - this works no matter how many other tells came in while typing.
Sort out your puller, use assist if you find that works for you. There is currently a bit of a delay before the target will appear with assist, but it helps to avoid risk of pulling twice as much as you can handle.
Get novice medic and create that /healdamage self macro asap, it's very handy. Getting a medicine use of 10 will allow you to use stim b's, which can mean the difference between life and death in a close call fight - it also means if you have pets then you can heal them (without needing pet stims, which of course offer another option). Medicine use of +30 allows you to use Stim C's, which are even better still but will cost you more skill points.
Make sure you're all targetting the same action pool - you will take out mobs much faster than if one is targetting health and another action etc. Learn what your specials do and use them!
This is the way I'm currently dealing with multiple weapons, using 2 macros and 3 toolbars. My main goal was to have a dual weapon setup that didn't involve cluttering up my toolbars by trying to fit specials for both weapons on one toolbar. I wanted a way to switch weapons without taking up too many slots on my toolbars. My toolbars are currently quite cluttered due to the fact that I have some scouting commands, some positional commands, the CH tame command, as well as my weapon specific commands on it - with 24 slots you don't have enought to cope with 2 different weapons and their specials, hence this scheme.
Elements of this setup:
one toolbar to store your items (you could also use this for other equip/unequip type macros, ie, armour etc) - place both your weapons on here
one toolbar to use for each of your weapons, ie, pistol / carbine.
2 switching macros (or 3 if you use 3 weapons)
Setup
Drag the 2 weapons onto the last toolbar and note their position
Create the 2 macros, I call mine ARMCARBINE and ARMPISTOL
Drag the 2 macros onto the toolbar - you want the ARMCARBINE macro on your pistol toolbar, and your ARMPISTOL macro on your Carbine toolbar - ie, so that they will let you toggle between each other.
Notes:
Each toolbar has common elements in the same place, as well as weapon specific actions.
Each toolbar has a "Switch weapon" action on the end of it.
Switch weapon macros - These switch to the toolbar containing your weapons (for me this is the last one, ie, /ui action toolbarPane05), select the appropriate weapon, then select the appropriate toolbar for the weapon. Ie, arm your carbine, then switch to the Carbine toolbar. The toolbars look almost identical, except they have the relevant different specials for the weapon. I use some /echo commands so I can easily see which weapon I'm using and so I know the macro executed.
