Pot. Kettle. Black. Etc.

I'm finding this post pretty funny, considering it's coming from a camp which has historically been pretty quick to sling mud at other corporations for "forcing" hardware upgrades on it's users in order to run their software.

Also, any up and coming Virus writers out there might like to take note of this little gem:

I excluded my Notes Program and Data directories from Symantec AV and things are 200% better. I'll pass this on to those who are piloting Notes 8.0 with me. Maybe we can rollout after all.

Jumping across to this post (which is discussing client startup times), the author makes this comment:

I bet that the speed issues that people see with Notes 8 Standard would effect Outlook 2007 as well. Could people be using the start-up time as an excuse for the Notes 8 Standard UI change?

I've got Outlook 2007 and Notes 8 (aka 'Godzilla') installed side by side on a couple of different machines, and let me tell you that comparing the loading times of the two clients isn't going to help your argument very much :)

Well, do you have any useful suggestions as to what will help, as opposed to maligning those that are working the challenge?

Notes has already lost the client war (may Netscape Communicator rest in peace also) - every end user I know prefers Outlook.

Maybe IBM should concentrate on the excellent Domino server product and leave the client to companies that do it well.

As you well know I'm completely obsessed with performance of user interfaces and the difference in immediacy and responsiveness between the standard and basic client is night and day.

However, for the first time ever, I'm putting up with significantly worse performance because the new interface is simply too good to give up. Kudos to the design team.

The perf/implementation team however, BAD KITTY, BAD. They're gonna get a smack with a rolled up newspaper if 8.5 isn't a leap ahead in performance.

Hi Ed,

I kind of agree with the useful suggestion from John "D" Head aka "Starfish" about not starting up the client. I limit the amount of legacy related development work I do to an hour or so a month, so I only need to start the Notes client up one or twice every few weeks. Problem solved!
