Why yo’ momma won’t use Google+

Why yo momma won’t use Google+ (and why that thrills me to no end) – Scoble on Google+. I kind of agree with a lot of what he’s saying there, but the elitist tone comes off pretty badly.

I really do like the level of granularity that Plus gives me – not that putting people in circular boxes is a good thing, but simply that one of Facebook’s biggest flaws right now is that sometimes you don’t want to share everything with everyone, and that sometimes you’re socially obliged to “Friend” someone who you might wish to deprioritize – Google+ lets you do this in a nice socially acceptable manner.

One thing that isn’t in the post, but is a good point (also from Scoble) is that all of the content on Plus right now is organic. Nothing coming through from Twitter or the myriad of other things which allow posting of spam/notification to Facebook. Will it stay like this? I doubt it, but it’ll be interesting to see.

Not playing Google+ yet, but Facebook has the ability to group friends so you choose who posts are seen by, how are the Google circles different from this?

Heh you know I had no idea Facebook had that feature, I'd never seen it. Given that I suppose it's the fact that Google+ seems to make it a much more prominent and important feature.

Does the Facebook implementation have security/privacy implications? Or it is just an organisational thing?

One thing that is different in Google+ is that you don't need to "Friend" someone in order to follow their posts. It's a subtle difference, but when you see people on Facebook that have 4000+ friends you kind of think the term is being used slightly incorrectly..
